What’s For Breakfast? Foods To Help You Tackle The Day

It’s extremely common for people to skip breakfast. Some of the reasons may be a lack of time, not feeling hungry, or simply not being aware of how important breakfast is.

Your first meal of the door literally means breaking a fast (breakfast) as your stomach has had nothing to digest for 7 to 9 hours.

So why shouldn’t you skip breakfast?

  • It can affect weight as it keeps your metabolism in check.
  • It provides important nutrients and energy to fuel your body for the day.
  • Skipping breakfast can cause issues with your blood sugar levels.
  • Your immunity can become compromised.
  • You are more likely to binge on unhealthy foods later on in the day.
  • Eating breakfast can help you to keep to a good morning routine which is ideal for self-care. You can make it part of your morning ritual which may include exercise, prayer/meditation, drawing up your daily to-do list and spending some time to gather your thoughts.
  • If you take medication, whether long or short term, not eating something before taking morning medicine can cause damage to your digestive system.

Healthy breakfasts for those on the go

“I’m too busy to have breakfast, I barely have time to shower, get ready, and prepare to be stuck in traffic to get to my first meeting of the day.”

Sound familiar? There is always an excuse for not having breakfast and this is probably the biggest one. One solution is to go to bed an hour earlier, wake up an hour earlier, and whip up something healthy and nutritious before you start your hectic day. Benefit alert: you could even miss the traffic or have some quiet time before you head off into the corporate world.

Or you could give some of these quick, healthy breakfasts a try-there really is no excuse-instead of scrolling through social media first thing, (we’re all guilty here), ditch the phone and nourish your body! Here are a few quick, healthy breakfast options.

Smoothies

The best thing about smoothies is that you can add whatever you like to them so there is variety. Vegetable smoothies can be delicious.

Vegetable smoothies are full of vitamins and minerals and are perfect to drink on the go. Put your favorite veggies into a blender, such as a cucumber, carrot, kale, or spinach, and blend it all up.

Fruit smoothies are also delicious and quick. Fresh berries, bananas, and any other favorites blend up to make a tasty sweet breakfast in no time. If you want to add extra healthy and filling ingredients, try nuts, seeds, and greek yogurt and add them to your desired smoothie.

Egg on wholewheat bread

Eggs are full of protein and wholewheat bread is full of fiber-keeping you fuller for longer. Whether you choose to fry or scramble your eggs is up to you, either way, it shouldn’t take more than 15 minutes. Add salt and pepper and sprinkle chives or other herbs onto your meal to taste.

Oatmeal

Whether you decide on instant oats or quick-cooking oats, oatmeal has been a top breakfast choice for decades. Not only is it quick and easy to make, but it also contains important nutrients including zinc, manganese, iron, fibre, and vitamin B-1. Add a bit of honey and milk for a scrumptious, hearty breakfast.

Nuts and seeds

With so many to choose from, nuts and seeds are both delicious, can be eaten on the go and are full of healthy fats and other important vitamins and minerals.

You can choose from almonds, pecans, walnuts, cashews-just don’t eat too many as they can pack a lot of calories, and when it comes to seeds try out sesame seeds, flax seeds, pumpkin seeds and hemp seeds. So much variety.

No more excuses now, eat your breakfast and start your day the right way.
